]]> Police on Tuesday night arrested Pittam Pratap Reddy, chairman of the temple, and two contract employees who attacked a priest and his sons with whip at Omkara Kshetra in Kurnool district, Andhrapradesh. It is learned that the temple chairman on Monday attacked Pujari Sudhakarayya and his sons Chakrapani and Mrigapani. Brahmins across the state were outraged over the incident. Revenue Regional Joint Commissioner (RJC) Venkatesh and Assistant Commissioner Ashish Naidu arrived in Omkaram on Tuesday to inquire into the incident.

Adi Shaiva Brahmin Sangh Kurnool district president Subba Satyanarayana Sharma, state assistant president Maheshwara Sharma, state priest’s union president Nandeeshwara Sharma and state president of the Hindu Devalaya Parirakshana Samithi (Hindu Temples Preservation Committee) Basavaraju were deployed outside the temple. Protesters insisted to move from the spot until Pittam Pratap Reddy was arrested. Temple priest Sudhakarayya and his sons climbed into the RJC car to protest as the authorities retreated in the evening without clarifying anything on the action despite concerns from the morning. They warned the authorities that they would be hanged if justice was not done to them.

They were reassured that they suspended the contract employees Nagraj and Eshwaraya and that the matter of suspension of the governing body of the temple and the suspension of E.O Mohan would be brought to the attention of the commissioner. Sub Inspector Rajareddy announced that they arrested the temple chairman Pittam Pratap Reddy and two contract employees Nagraj and Eswarayya on Tuesday night. The inquiry committee sent a report to the revenue commissioner suggesting the removal of the Omkaram temple chairman from that post.

ఆది శైవ బ్రాహ్మణ సంఘం కర్నూలు జిల్లా అధ్యక్షుడు సుబ్బ సత్యనారాయణ శర్మ, రాష్ట్ర సహాయ అధ్యక్షుడు మహేశ్వర శర్మ, రాష్ట్ర అర్చక సమాఖ్య అధ్యక్షుడు నందీశ్వర శర్మ, హిందూ దేవాలయాల పరిరక్షణ సమితి రాష్ట్ర అధ్యక్షుడు బసవరాజు ల ఆధ్వర్యంలో ఆలయం బయట బైఠాయించారు. పిట్టం ప్రతాప్‌రెడ్డిని అరెస్టు చేసే వరకు అక్కడి నుంచి కదలమని ఆందోళనకారులు భీష్మించారు. ఉదయం నుంచి ఆందోళన చేస్తున్నా చర్యలపై ఏమీ తేల్చకుండా అధికారులు సాయంత్రం తిరుగుముఖం పట్టడంతో ఆలయ పూజారి సుధాకరయ్య, అతని కుమారులు ఆర్‌జేసీ కారుపైకి ఎక్కి నిరసన తెలిపారు. తమకు న్యాయం జరగకపోతే అక్కడే ఉరి వేసుకుంటామని హెచ్చరించారు.

ఒప్పంద ఉద్యోగులు నాగరాజు, ఈశ్వరయ్యలను సస్పెండ్‌ చేస్తున్నామని, పాలక మండలి రద్దు, ఈవో మోహన్‌ సస్పెన్షన్‌ విషయం కమిషనర్‌ దృష్టికి తీసుకెళ్తామని హామీ ఇవ్వడంతో వారు శాంతించారు. పిట్టం ప్రతాప్‌రెడ్డి, ఇద్దరు ఒప్పంద ఉద్యోగులు నాగరాజు, ఈశ్వరయ్యలను అరెస్టు చేసినట్లు ఎస్సై రాజారెడ్డి మంగళవారం రాత్రి తెలిపారు. ఓంకారం ఆలయ ఛైర్మన్‌ను ఆ పదవి నుంచి తొలగించాలని సూచిస్తూ విచారణ కమిటీ దేవాదాయ కమిషనర్‌కు నివేదిక పంపింది.
