దీనిపై స్పందించిన మంత్రి జై శంక‌ర్ మాట్లాడుతూ ” జాతి వివ‌క్ష‌కు వ్య‌తిరేకంగా పోరాడిన గాంధీజీ పుట్టిన దేశం భార‌త‌దేశం అని,  జాత్య‌హంకారానికి  భార‌త్ ఎప్పుడూ వ్యతిరేకిస్తుంది”  అని  ఆయ‌న స్ప‌ష్టం చేశారు.  బ్రిట‌న్‌లో జ‌రుగుతున్న పరిణామాలను ఎప్ప‌టిక‌ప్పుడూ గమనిస్తున్నామ‌ని, స‌రైన స‌మ‌యంలో క‌చ్చిత‌మైన చ‌ర్య‌లు తీసుకుంటామ‌ని ఆయ‌న తెలిపారు. జాత్యహంకారం, ఇతర రకాల అసహనాల‌పై భార‌త్ ఎప్పుడూ పోరాడుతోంద‌ని ఆయ‌న అన్నారు.

”కర్ణాటకలోని ఉడిపికి ప్రాంతానికి చెందిన ర‌ష్మీ స‌మంత్ ఎన్నో స‌వాళ్ల‌ను అధిగ‌మించి ఆక్స్‌ఫ‌ర్డ్ యూనివ‌ర్సీటీలో విద్యార్థి సంఘం అధ్యక్షురాలిగా ఎన్నికయింది.  కానీ అక్క‌డి ప్ర‌జ‌లు వివ‌క్ష చూప‌డంతో, ముఖ్యంగా యూనివర్సిటీకి చెందిన అధ్యాప‌క స‌భ్యుడు ఒక‌రు ఏకంగా ఆమె త‌ల్లిదండ్రుల హిందూ మ‌త విశ్వాసాల‌ను కించ‌ప‌రిచిన‌ట్టూ బ‌హిరంగంగానే ప‌లు వ్యాఖ్యానాలు చేశాడు, సోష‌ల్ మీడియాలో ఆమె ప‌ట్ల ఆస‌హ‌నం వ్య‌క్తం చేశారు. దీంతో ఆమె రాజీనామా చేయాల్సి వ‌చ్చింది. ఆక్స్‌ఫ‌ర్డ్ వంటి యూనివ‌ర్సీటీల్లో కూడా ఒక భార‌త మ‌హిళ జాతి వివ‌క్ష‌కు గుర‌వ‌డం చూస్తే…  బ్రిట‌న్ వంటి దేశం ప్ర‌పంచానికి ఎటువంటి సందేశాన్ని ఇస్తుందో అర్థం చేసుకోవాల‌ని, జాత్యహంకారం ఏ స్థాయిలో పెరిగిపోయిందో స్ప‌ష్టం అవుతోంది అని ఎంపీ అశ్విని వైష్ణవ్ ఆవేద‌న వ్య‌క్తం చేశారు.

”బ్రిట‌న్ యువ‌రాజు హారీ భార్య మేఘాన్ కూడా జాతి వివ‌క్ష‌కు గురైంద‌ని, సమాజంలో అత్యున్నత స్థాయిలో ఉన్న వారిపైనే జాతి వివ‌క్ష‌ పాటిస్తే, కింది స్థాయిలో ఉన్న వారి ప‌రిస్థితి ఎలా ఉంటుందో ” అని ఆయన ప్ర‌శ్నించారు. ఈ రెండు ఘ‌ట‌న‌లు వేరుకావ‌ని బ్రిట‌న్‌లో పెరిగిపోతున్న జాత్య‌హంకారంపై చ‌ర్య‌లు తీసుకోవాల‌ని ఎంపీ కోరారు.

అలాగే ఇటీవ‌ల భార‌త ప్ర‌భుత్వం ప్ర‌వేశ‌పెట్టిన వ్య‌వ‌సాయ చ‌ట్టాల‌పై, లండ‌న్‌లోని కొన్ని ఖ‌లిస్తానీ గ్రూపుల ఒత్తిడితో,  బ్రిట‌న్ పార్ల‌మెంట్‌లో  చ‌ర్చించ‌డం ప‌ట్ల భార‌త్ తీవ్ర స్థాయిలో ఆసంతృప్తి వ్య‌క్తం చేసింది.  దీనిపై బ్రిట‌న్ హై క‌మిష‌న‌ర్‌ను వివరణ కోరింది కూడా.

S Jaishankar made the remarks while responding to concerns raised in Rajya Sabha by BJP MP, Ashwini Vaishnaw, who contended that racism and cyber-bullying forced Rashmi Samant, the first Indian woman elected president of the Oxford University Student Union, to quit her post.

“What I do want to say is that we have strong ties with the UK; we will take up such matters with great candour when required. We will monitor these developments very, very closely,” External affairs minister S Jaishankar said in his response to Ashwini Vaishnaw.

“We will raise it when required, and we will always champion the fight against racism and other forms of intolerance,” S Jaishankar said.

“I do want to say that as the land of Mahatma Gandhi, we can never ever turn our eyes away from racism, wherever it is, particularly when it is in a country where we have such a large diaspora. As a friend of the UK, we also have concerns about its reputational impact,” he added.

It is to be noted that Rashmi Samant quit as president of the Oxford University Student Union after the emergence of old social media posts that were deemed to be “racist” and “insensitive” by groups representing Asian and Jewish students.

She initially offered an apology for the social media posts, some dating back to 2017, but later stepped down as president-elect after facing continued criticism. Since returning to India, Samant has claimed she was unfairly targeted.

Rashmi Samant now feels that she has been unfairly targeted, and even her family has been unnecessarily dragged into the whole affair by Internet bullies, including a faculty member.
